learnin php!

I spent most of my dad today hanging out and teching my buddy kevin some php basics. We spent a good portion of the day working on a start-up project he had been wanting to build for a while. But I managed to sneak some textReminders.net time in on the side. 

Jack Hill was kind enough to point out to me that textReminders was lacking the ability to change ones phone number from within the members area. Now originally this was done on purpose, because a members phone number was supposed to be the unique ID that tied a member to their information. However, this was a bad setup, because phone numbers do change. So today I spent a bit of time wading through code, changing phone number ID’s to new, numberic ID’s. All lots of fun. Anyhow, the end results is control over your phone number. 

The other big project is the “friends” area on the top navigation. I want to build kind of like an address book where you can message your friends easily without having to type in each’s numbers every time. I’d also like the ability to setup groups and email everyone at the same time. This is a work in progress atm. 

Last night…err. this morning, I made some pretty decent changes to the way direct messages are handled including having the senders image appear next to the message. 

I’m planning some more work on the ‘wall’ features, as well as making the profile picture more prominent inside the members area. Hopefully this will encourage users to upload a real pic of themselves. I love social networks.
