A busy week
It’s been a crazy week for the textReminders.net web site. I don’t know what to talk about first, but I guess I’ll talk about the new features first.
Just today I added the blog that you’re reading to the site. Mostly to build fresh content and keep the search engines coming back, but I’ve also been so excited about all the progress the site is making, I felt I had to tell the world somehow.
My friend Shawn Walsh is a talented graphic designer, and he designed the sites new logo. I’m not sure if it’s the final rendention or not, but it looks much better then the crappy standard font logo I built in Photoshop.
Tonight’s task was focusing on the direct messaging the site can do. I added the functionality to view sent messages, as well as a hide/show link to help organize new messages. More to come in that area .
There’s just so much that I worked on this week - privacy policy, terms of service, supression list, sms tips, image uploads, wall posts, calendar/clock improvements, etc. I’d love to give details of each update, but it’s 2am, and I’m tired. lol.
Site traffic exploded this week thanks to a lovely review on makeuseof.com. That review really got some exposure, and soon stumbleUpon and KillerStartsups.com were top referring web sites. Let me give you an idea of the traffic jump thanks to these sites… On Sunday of this week I had 10 visits. Friday (today) I had 277 visits. I’m really hoping all the blogs and other review sites that picked up on the larger reviews will help me rank for some competitive terms.
Tomorrow I’m meeting with a friend to show him some PHP stuff. My plan is to built out the “friends” area of the site. Currently you can follow friends, and send them messages, but I want to be able to save friends numbers, and really manage an online address book easier.
Before I close for the night I’ll also add that I’ve been testing the core messaging functionality a lot more recently. I made some adjustments to the code that have provided greater reliablity on scheduled texts. I know that the army time in the text setup area is annoying, so I promise to address that soon.
